Mother & Baby Yoga

The Aim:
The aim of yoga is that babies' pleasureable sensations are enhanced as much as possible. And baby yoga sessions are fun!

The Benefit:
Sensory stimulation and development are by-products of the enjoyable and intense interaction that yoga with babies offers, rather than being the goal itself.

Benefits for Babies
Physical -
- Strengthens the spine and neck
- Develops supple joints
- Enlivens the entire body, especially the digestive and nervous systems.
- Stimulation of the nervous system encourages brain development
- Stimulates the vestibular system - the body system relating to balance and altitude.

Emotional -
- Yoga is a mutual process, therefore communication and interaction with the mother is enhanced.
- Babies feel that their needs have been listened to and responded to correctly.
- Behaviour is more 'settled'

Benefits for Mother/Parent
- Effective for re-alignment and strengthening of the body following childbirth.
- Combines postnatal yoga postures and stretching to strengthen the pelvic floor and core abdominal muscles.
- Helps balance hormonal changes that follow childbirth.
- Growing confidence in handling the baby.
